Jewellery Travel Tips

Travelling is a luxury that many haven’t been able to do for the past few years. Now with travel back on the cards (hello destination weddings!), we have compiled our top jewellery traveling tips to help keep your jewellery safe and looking its best while you travel.

Insurance

It is a common mistake in assuming your jewellery is covered for travel under your home and contents policy. Before you decide to take your precious jewellery with you, check the fine print of your policy to ensure your jewellery is covered. If it’s not, you may want to consider either upgrading your policy or taking out a jewellery stand alone policy to include travel.

Selfie time

Get out your camera and take a picture of yourself with your pieces on. Make sure the piece and your face is clearly visible and save the images in two separate locations. This is vital in proving the pieces belong to you, should they ever be stolen and found. It is also a great practice to get in when you add pieces to your collection.

Storage

Correctly storing your jewellery will minimise your chances of leaving items behind while you’re soaking up the sun in Italy. Having a small travel pouch, like the ones all of our jewellery is supplied in, keeps items detangled as well as keeping dust and dirt away. This helps ensure they are always sparkling. Straws are a great way to store necklace chains to keep them from getting tangled.

Outfits

Consider what items you must take with you and what items you can leave behind. A great rule of thumb is to pack anything you wouldn’t be upset loosing. If you are travelling for your wedding or special occasion, then limit the amount that you take. The less you take the less you will be worried about where you have placed it.

Check in

Jewellery is a highly sentimental and expensive item to pack, along with your passport! Therefore it’s best to always keep it with you in your handbag or carry on luggage. Better yet, wearing the item will further reduce the risk of it becoming lost.

Alternative

Consider wearing an alternative wedding and engagement band for your travels and leaving your sentimental piece safe at home. If you still want to wear a replica of your ring without the price tag, consider having a copy made using a white gemstone to reduce the value of the set. If you don’t like the idea of a replica consider an inexpensive dress ring to wear on your travels.

Going on holiday is a time to let your hair down and relax. Take the stress and worry out of your trip and pack and consider the location and activities you have on your itinerary prior topacking your sentimentalpieces. If you choose to take your items, confirm your insurance policy fine print and always pack them in your carry on and/or handbag. Store your items in a tangle free pouch to keep them looking their best during transit. Alternatively consider a replica or dress piece in replacement of the real thing.
